The Forty Rules of Love

This book is written by Turkish British author Elif Shafak published in 2009. The book has 352 pages and five parts. Special thing of this book is every chapter starts with B because of Bismillah hir rahman nir rahim. In this book basically there are two stories one is about Ella and second one is about , how Maolana Rumi transformed into Sufi. The purpose of this book is Sufism. This book or novel also explains the friendship between Rumi and Shams of Tabriaz. The Forty Rules define love by the Shams of Tabriaz.

Before Shams he was a teacher in Madrrasa. He had two sons Aladdin and Sultan Walad and one daughter Kimya she was adopted by Rumi. Rumi had two marriages one of them was non Muslim Kerra transformed into Muslim.

Master Seyyid Burhanenddin wrote a letter to Baba Zaman for the companion of Rumi. The Baba Zaman selected Shams of Tabriaz for this journey. He came to Konya and went to brothel , bar and bazar to know about Rumi. At that time Rumi was popular as a preacher of Islam. Tabriaz also met with the desert rose she was member of that brothel, after leaving brothel she came to Rumi house, and he also met with Suleiman he was a drinker. After spent some time with those characters Shams met with Rumi. After that Rumi and Shams spent 4O days in closed room. That time the family of Rumi felt jealous because Rumi was spending more time with Shams of Tabriaz. During this time Rumi and Shams invented spiritual dance. They also performed it in the front of audience. Rumi had blind trust on Shams.

When Shams went back , Rumi felt insecure and searched for Rumi. Rumi sent his son for searching Shams. Shams didn’t wanted to come back to Konya. After Sultan Walad convinced him and he came back. Shams married with Kimya. After marriage he was assassinated in courtyards of Rumi ‘s house. According to book Aladdin Rumi ‘s was involved in this assassination because Aladdin fallen in love with Kimya . After that Rumi shouted, They killed my Shams, They killed my Shams.

For every Sufi who dies , another is born somewhere.

The novel the Forty Rules of Love guides us, Islam is the name of love. We are all connected in a chain of hearts, how we can behave with bad and good people and what is actually friendship? It is also attracts to the Sufism .

I will rate the book 9 out of 10. Because I got more information about Rumi and Shams .
